9490 Droid Escape

9490 Droid Escape is an Episode IV set that was released on January 1, 2012. It includes new C-3PO,R2-D2 minifigures, and new printed Sandtroopers. It also includes an escape pod and an Imperial speeder bike. This is the second set to be called Droid Escape. The first one was released in 2001, and included a less detailed escape pod. The two sets are identical, except that the 2012 version included a speeder bike, and Sandtroopers. This set was the first to include the new C-3PO and Sandtrooper minifigures.

Interior[]

The interior of the escape pod is very detailed. It includes controls, and places for C-3PO and R2-D2 to sit. Small controls are seen in the front, forward of where C-3PO sits. The top half of the escape pod's outer shell can be removed to access the inside.

Speeder bike[]

This is the first set to include a sand speeder bike. The bike was small and brown, with a place that could sit a minifigure wearing a backpack. The steering handles on the bike can be moved up and down.

Notes[]

The Sandtroopers in this set have different coloured pauldrons- one has white (for sergeant) and one has orange (for squad leader). They also have printing on their helmets and torso depicting dirty armour, and the legs are also printed.
C-3PO has a new design, but is the same colour as in other sets.
This set includes the some of the first figures with printing on the minifigures "feet" along with the Bomb Squad Trooper and ARC Trooper.
It is a re-design of 7106 Droid Escape released in 2001, 11 years before the release of 9490 Droid Escape.
